Tire manufacturers are now recommending that car and light truck tires should not be used if they are more than five years old (which could be a recipe for disaster with Firestone Steeltex's) and also when only replacing two that the newer tires be installed on the rear. If it were me, I would bite the bullet and buy two for the rear, then two more as soon as I could afford them. That way both tires on the rear axle will demonstrate equal traction characteristics until I could put on new fronts.
