You may be interested in picking up an OBDII monitoring device ( AutoTap - OBDII Diagnostic Scanner is the one I use). Lets you see codes, reset them, and VIEW IN REAL TIME hundreds of monitored things such as any misfires, sensor levels, and operating conditions. Well worth it to invest the $200 if you plan to keep the truck long term as a DIY'er.
