As AK said, just keep a spare filter with you. I have never changed a filter outside of regular maintenance and had over 180,000 on diesel before switching to Bio. I have run over 80,000 miles on B100 or Bsomething depending on the temps.
I seriously doubt the claim of incfreased mileage. You will probably find a loss of about 1.5 MPG, depending of course on how you drive it. Your engine will sound quieter, run smoother and smell a whole lot better.
