Pull the EGR valve (two 8mm bolts, located in front of the top oil filter housing) and look inside. If it's wet, that's coolant and indicates EGR cooler failure. Look at the welds of the EGR cooler, if you see cracks, then it may indicate oil cooler failure since a blocked oil cooler will not pass coolant to the EGR cooler, which will overheat and get the cracks. If it's passing coolant, and the EGR cooler fails, you should see wet soot under the EGR valve.
