Most dealerships are divided into profit centers. The new-car sales department is only one of the profit centers. Others are parts sales, used vehicle sales, fleet sales, and the service department. In some the F&I (finance and insurance) department is a seperate profit center.
When you buy your vehicle from Bobby Williams, Bobby arranges a "courtesy delivery" with your local dealer. So your local dealer will receive your new truck off the transporter, clean it up, and do all the paperwork to deliver the vehicle to you. They will probably even put their dealership logo on the tailgate or license plate frame. But that courtesy delivery costs you a coupla hundred bucks. TANSTAAFL. So the service manager will know his dealership delivered the vehicle to you and made a buck doing it.
No reasonable service manager cares where you bought your vehicle. He wants your service business and he will beg and plead for it. The service manager is concerned with his profit center - the service department. He could care less about the new vehicle sales profit center or the fleet sales profit center.
