Heat expedites the process, but adds significant danger - for obvious reasons.
My bio-d partner has recently mastered soap making! Best soap I've ever used, seriously (from degreaser to shampoo!). We are working on a still to recover the methanol, but he is currently using turkey fryer to heat the glycerin and consequently boil off the methanol.
I've heard the commercial biodiesel folks make as much $$ off their glycerin as they do biodiesel... seems a shame to 'throw it away'. It can also be used by concrete people as form release - most use diesel, so there's a huge savings for them (and $$ for you). Just a couple thoughts!
