I started out with an 'appleseed' system I built myself. I could make 32 gallons of high quality biodiesel in 4 or 5 days, depending on the wash and dry cycles. It took 4-5 hours of my time per batch. I am a very busy guy and my time is precious but I love to learn stuff.
Now I use a BioPro 190 automated system. I can turn out 50 gallons of high quality fuel every 48 - 72 hours, depending on oil quality, and 30 minutes of my time. The processor paid for itself in less than two years (I use 3000+ gallons of fuel per year).
My TOTAL costs now that the equipment cost has been recouped is between 47 and 97
cents per gallon. I am a bean counter by trade so when I say total costs that is what I mean. I recover and reuse the methanol.
