I love my job and I get more satisfaction having a troubled truck come in and finding out EXACTLY what is wrong and fixing that problem. Not throughing parts at the general area until its fixed. Then the customer gets a fat bill and he wonders why.... I seen techs write up novel stories on the paperwork on what was wrong when what they are actually doing is just making a bunch of crap up and making it sound good so we would get paid...

I know that happens in dealers. I pulled my truck out of a shop one time because I was talking to the Tech and he just seemed dumb as all hell... These days if you can read and you havea box of tools you are a tech now. Because the trouble shooting is in the book now adays. It's just that people are so lazy now. One shop wouldnt do my headgaskets on my truck because it was lifted 6 inches. They told me they would do it if I removed the lift and dropped it down to a stock level? I was blown away when they told me that. Then they wanted 100 bucks for the warranty charge for doing nothing.

Ironic, Isn't it? Anybody can become a Ford Diesel Tech because we can spend thousands of dollars on tools and, Oh yes, Read ! Yet you are having to take it to a shop to have it diagnoised. I am going to also take the liberty of speaking for every other Ford Diesel tech on this site in saying that doing ANY engine work on a truck with a 6" lift is no fun on the back to say the least. Most of us just suck it up and do our best to get you back on the road so you can continue your vacation or have your work truck back to make your living. Dont judge all of us based on a bad expirence you may have had. I can assure you that we have very strict guidelines on the diagnosing of any repair we may peform on your vechicle. Very few , If any of us, Would have a job if we just threw a hand grenade in a dark room to try and fix a problem. I am sure you take pride in taking care of your customers, So do I.
