What year was the truck? I have heard of a handful of oil pump failures on 03, early 04 trucks with the "smaller" water pump/front cover.
There was some discussion on competitiondiesel.com about the use of Fluidampers causing oil pump failures, but in the end the general conclusion was that most people running Fluidampers were really pushing their trucks harder, which led to premature oil pump failures. Most of these failures were in earlier (03 to early 04) trucks.
