2005 F-350 King Ranch-Possible Head Gasket Blown
Truck has 67,000 miles. It has no aftermarket mods. It has always run very well. Last week I began smelling what I will describe as a eletrical warm wire smell in my air vents...occasionally. I would not smell it outside of the truck, even when lifting the hood. Infact all looked and sounded well under the hood. I was driving truck to work late last week and while sitting at red light a small puff of smoke/steam came out of the hood close to the windshield. I pulled over and could not find the culprit.
I drove straight to dealership. I described what had happened. He opened the hood. My coolant was gone, but never showed signs of leaking, never had the smell of a hot engine, never showed running hot on the idiot gauges, etc.etc. The dealership tells me that they have seen no less than 200 of these trucks come in with the same issue and it usually turns out to be a blown head gasket.
I left the truck and was told there were two head gasket jobs ahead of me before they will start on mine. I was two months from being out of warranty. The job will cost me $100.
Just thought I would share.
