On my 89 F350 the pcm is located behind the cover next to parking brake pedal. It has a bolt holding the plug into it under the hood. I am having the same problem with my e4od it starts out in od or 3rd in drive and can shift it to 2nd manually in 1st or 2nd on shifter. Just had it in the shop for diagnostics all electronics checked out and they told me it is something internally in the tranny,they say forward clutches possibly.
