Hello friends,
Been lurking for some time now....
I've been a PSD'er for over ten years but with my latest issues in blowing motors and terrible DPF issues in my 6.4 that I'm considering going back to a gasser! See my posts in blowing engines left and right in the 6.4 forum.
And this was after owning and trading in my 06' 6.OH!
Anyway, I've got a few questions for you experienced V-10 Owners:
1. If my lemon law claim goes through and able to get another truck, can we still get a V-10.
2. I haul cattle and hay, does the V-10 rate about as well as the 6.4, I realize that it won't match real heavy loads as the diesel but interested to know what your experience has been. My biggest hay load is usually around 180 small squares (6 tons max.) on a 25' flatbed with two 7K axles.
3. MPG was always an issue between the two, but now a days I'm hearing that they are about equal at around 10 to 12 under normal driving and less under load. Is that about correct in your experience with the V-10
4. Living at high altitude (9k feet) is why my 6.4 is having all the difficulty from what I've been told. Not enough O2 to consume all the fuel during the DPF regen process where excess fuel gets into the crankcase and "makes" oil? Anyone living up here in the Colorado Rockies own a V-10 and having good luck? My understanding is that Ford has been making this motor for a long time and it's pretty bullet proof and trouble free. But do you run high octane in your rigs!
5. And lastly, what size tires and gear ratios you all running? I had 20" Wrangler ATS's on my 6.4 with 3.73 gears and liked the ride and the way they towed but if I get a V-10 want to make sure that I've got the correct combination?
Sorry for the long post but just don't know much about the V-10 but enough now that it might make sense to rid myself of the diesel and go back to a gasser! Thanks fella's, I appreciate any feedback!
Cheers from the Colorado high country~
