No just use it straight with a high viscosity spray gun like the one you would use for spray in bed liners. This is an old trick probably done for half a century. Over time it will dry and leave a nice coating. They use salt on the roads here by the metric ton. They use primarily salt as our temps rarely go below the single digits but i do know some areas of the state are starting to use urea based deicers. Which i would imagine is much worse for the steel then salt but much more environmentally safe.
