I've towed and never had a issue. 5-20k. I run a heavy tow program and the truck runs a lot better. Like stated above a 6.0 can blow the gaskets or stretch the bolts stock. I will advise you this! If you tune or modify the truck no matter what you have even a cummins for petes sake. Be ready to pay. I run hot tunes and use my head. I have had no issues and my truck runs like a rapped ape. I am planning on getting headgaskets and studs as a prevenative. as I feel doing it when funds and time are avalible is a lot better then in a crunch.
