The MBRP (and most aftermarket performance mufflers) are a "straight-thru" design. Meaning the inlet and outlet are in line with each other, so the exhaust flow runs in a straight line from the inlet to the outlet. Your factory muffler is not like this at all (take a look under your truck and it will be apparent). So to put a straight-thru muffler on there will take some fabricating. Furthermore, if you put a 4" muffler into a 3.5" exhaust system, you are going to create turbulence/backpressure in the exhaust system (a bad thing). The turbulence is a result of the gases entering the muffler expanding from 3.5" to 4", then being forced to reduce again to 3.5". You would be better off to have a muffler shop fab you up a piece of pipe to simply replace the muffler and leave the rest of the system alone until you put on a full aftermarket system.
The "jet" sound you heard was from a truck with the 03 turbo. The 03 turbo has a considerably louder whistle to it than later models.
