Sounds like you did. You aren't suppose to let the wheel turn at all with the shaft disconnected. Is your horn and cruise dead too? Sounds like you ripped the clockspring wire ribbon. You can replace it, it's not that bad if you have a steering wheel puller. It is located behind the wheel and is a plastic ring shaped thing with a couple plugs going into it. The new one will come taped down to prevent turning, don't untape it untill it's mounted in the column. Good luck
