Since the engine is not running when this is happening, there is no high pressure oil. Without high pressure oil, nothing gets injected, so nothing could get "spit out"....

The flash that shakes the spool valves was only used for a short period of time. That's probably why you haven't heard it before. There is nothing wrong with the flash or what it does. But folks complained about the noise. Ford then brought out the "inductive heating" flash to heat the spool valves instead of shaking them. Both flashes were created to deal with rough running on cold starts.
