They come up on eBay on occaision for less.
It senses the oil pressure in the heads. That high pressure oil is what drives the injectors (they're individual hydraulic pumps). The signal from the ICP sensor goes to the PCM, which uses it to send a control signal to the IPR (Injection Pressure Regulator) to regulate the pressure of the HP oil for various running conditions.
