My truck has over 200k on it with a stock torque converter. The truck has an "unknown" chip already installed and shifts nice and firm. Only problem I had was once I went over 70mph and hit the "go pedal" the lockup clutch on the torque converter would slip.
With the bank account short of the balance required for a new transmission I opted for a BD Diesel Pressure Loc that ups the pressure of the tranny when the lockup clutch is engaged.
No more slipping and that means I can squeak some more miles and time out of it.
