Folks that have done that with a diesel, or aimed the exhaust out the side in front of the rear tires, soon learn that was a mistake . Your rear wheels and center cap and other shiny parts will be really black and nasty and ugly in a very few miles. So you need that tailpipe going over the rear axle, then going out the side behind the rear tires.
