I pretty much follow the recommended maintenance schedule, I just mostly use the severe duty one. I'd rather waste a couple $k in extra oil and filters over a 20+ year vehicle service life than risk early problems with a $60k truck. Since I do my own service, the lack of labor charges probably makes the actual cost in line with the normal service schedule for dealer service anyway.
