How many miles on the engine? What type of service was the truck doing?
What type of air filter was used?
I would pull the intake boot at the turbo and take a look at the vanes and check the shaft bearings for play, my thought on this is it may tell you what has been ingested by the engine.

There is 247k on the motor, The truck was a ranch truck in south colorado, came to the conculision that the owner would spray it with starting fluid. found the can in the engine bay. The turbo has a few bent blades but no shaft play. Thats why i get the thought of it may poss. may need a re-ring
