Engines are engines. My 6.9L didn't stop drinking oil until it seated at just over 50,000 miles. I had to replace the fuel pump at 54,000. I had it in to the stealership until it had about 40,000 miles. Then, as though the weaknesses were corrected, it ran like a champ for 100,000 more miles. Then, some work, fuel seperator, power pump, water pump. About a grand in parts. My nephew has had it for the last 5 years and it is still running strong.
I had nothing but problems with my two suburbans. Head gaskets, rear ends, plus many more.
Yes, the 6.0l have had some issues. Mine has about 65,000 miles on it and no blow ups yet. I had some issues during hot weather. Irratic running when it was 80 degrees and above. Not regularly. Just now and then. But I have not since we have been having somewhat cool weather the last year or so. I would like to think it was fixed with the last visit to the stealership. But who knows.
I guess what I am saying is that, gas or diesel, it is an engine. You may have troubles. You may not. Maintain it with care and love. Hug her. Kiss her. Sometimes she will break your heart. But, after a little time for making up, the two of you will be close again. But then, as you replace broken parts, put things back together, make up love is always the best.
