SmokeWren is right. It depends totally on the jurisdiction you live in. Most areas do not have laws regarding mufflers, just noise decibels. A Duramax with a straight pipe is not very loud. 04's do not have a particulate filter. If it has a cat, laws regarding it's removal vary. EGR system is not affected by straight piping the exhaust.
