I haven't broken my leg, but in the last few years I've had a ruptured bicep and a severed tibialis anterior. I paid for both the surgeries and physical therepy by myself.

I assume that, as a man of principle, you also eschew insurance for your home and vehicles?
After all, those are only material possesions (unlike your health) and you should be able to take care of them all by yourself too.
