troubleshooting 6.0 turbo
here is my story.
I have a 2003 6.0 with an afe cold air and edge programmer. At 90000 miles the dealer changed out the turbo stating rust and not the usual coking,
Now I am 117000 and I have turbo woes. Lack of power, coughing thru the intake and a lot of black smoke, happened all of the sudden after ildeing 15 minutes or so,I have been told my diesel mechanic turbo is bad just by hooking a scanner up to it once. Took it to another and we started checking all the periphal stuff. MAP sensor, expressure, and toook the edge programmer out and the system and worked fine for a week or two, then after a 5 minute idle, the same problem again. more checking and we have orderd a new turbo. On a hunch after reading a thread about VGT reset, I pulled both battery cables for 5 minutes, re hooked and now the truck runs fine again. Got any info on checking VGT or am I looking at a new turbo either way?
