Any of the volunteer moderators or our one paid administrator. There are five or six of us volunteers active right now: RDG (Bob), Dick Cutting, Believer45 (Dave), klhansen (Kevin), johnm (John) and me. Username Administrator (Nadeem) doesn't usually get involved with moderation, but he has the keys to the vault if he needs them.

and what is the critera for closing a thread?
It it goes off-topic, or deteriorates into name-calling or shouting. As one of those guys on the Supreme Court said, I can't define it, but I'll know it when I see it.

Why not have a Politics and Religion thread?
Religion or politics were never allowed to be discussed in the "other" or "off topic" forums. There are numerous other websites with forums where those discussions can be held.

As long as it doesn't get personal, it would give us a chance to give a good rant.
It always gets personal and degenerates into personal attacks. How could you be so stupid as to not believe in my religion? How could you be so ignorant as to not agree with my politics? So the moderators's job becomes difficult and time consuming. Go to any forum that discusses religion or politics or both and you'll see what I mean.
