If it were not for the last sentence, I would say the EGR cooler hose was the most likely problem and it still may be the reason you have coolant at the back of the engine but maybe not...
"Leaking" from the degas bottle (overflow bottle) is an indication of too much pressure in the cooling system. Without proper diagnosis, it is a shot in the dark as to the cause but the usual suspects are the EGR cooler, oil cooler, viscous fan clutch and headgaskets. If you do a search for "puking" in this forum, you will find enough reading material to educate yourself on each of these possible causes..
A bad EGR cooler could cause a leak, so could bad headgaskets.. So, you really need to get this properly diagnosed.....
