I'm an old man with a bad case of CRS, but I seem to remember that if your truck has either a manual tranny or an automagic with the PTO option, then it's fairly simple to wire up a high idle RPM switch. But very few of the pickups have hand shaker trannies, and almost none of the automagics have the PTO option, so for most of us the Ford Auxiliary PCM (a.k.a., auxiliary idle controller or AIC) is the obvious choice. I've had mine for over 9 years and would not want to be without it.
