Had my truck in the dealership the other day for the same issue. They couldn't duplicate it while they were road testing the truck. The mechanic put the truck on diagnostic and actuated the EGR valve and still couldn't duplicate the white smoke. When the mechanic tried to pull the EGR valve out of the mixer to inspect it, he found that it was frozen in the mixer. So they replaced the mixer. So far no issues white the white smoke and hesitation. I've been driving it since trying to get it to do it with no issues so far. But I do see puffs of black smoke coming from the exhaust when I get into the accelerator.
