Re: Anyone running SVO/Biodiesel in their IDI's?
I get most of my oil from three or so resturants...Soybean, Canola mostly... one uses Canola/Corn oil mix.
I just stopped in and ate and asked if I could have some of the oil. Two of the places I know the owners. A friend of mine has been running a dodge on WVO for almost as long as I have. We go together and pick up 300 gal or so at a time.
My set-up allows me to just let the oil settle for two weeks or so and pump off the top and in the fuel tank it goes.
By the time you figure in filter cost and labor I've got maybe 30/40 cents a gallon in it. I've thought about using my front tank for WVO in my truck (I currently use a 5o gal. aux. tank in the bed) but I think it would be very difficult to keep it warm enough here in Ohio in the winter. The key to running WVO is, as was stated by someone already...Keep it hot enough and getting good oil. It's tempting to take anything you can get but it will bite you in the long run.
It's really about how much of a risk you're willing to take...If I had a new PSD I'd convert it in a minute. My uncle who has seen my set-up since it was installed would kill anyone who tried to put one on his Power Stroke.
The concept has many miles/hours of testing but it is still experimental and could cause problems if not done correctly.
Probably some of the "hacking" into the fuel lines would cause some of the guys on this board to have a fit as we say here in the hills of Ohio...it just about did me and most everything I know about diesels (7.3 IDI or otherwise) I learned from this board!
By the way, thanks to all you guys on this board who post regularly...you shortened my learning curve by a whole bunch!
