Re: diesel from waste coal

I believe the push for alternatives is naturally driven by economics. As long as it is cheaper to comply with the whims of the Saudi princes, we will be held hostage to OPEC. But, as the cost of oil goes higher and higher (new record highs this week) I have a feeling we will see more research money being spent on alternative resources. There will be a lag time unfortunately. Those of us running veggie in our diesel trucks will fare much better than the average gas guzzling consumers.

Have you noticed that BP and Shell are both now into the solar energy business? They see the handwriting on the wall.

I applaud any efforts, whether using coal or veggie or whatever, to reduce and hopefully eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.

By the way, my buddies in the Oil Patch tell me the Siberians have oil reserves that make some of the Saudi fields look average to dinky. And the Russians don't have the same environmental or safety regulations as US companies must comply to. Its almost scary.

I hope this doesn't sound too political... its more economics.
