What is the Rubber PLUG in the front of the Bell Housing for on the '03s?

I am getting ready to service my '03s tranny....finally.....is the rubber plug on the front of the bell housing put there in order to drain the torque converter? I know that on later models this plug is deleted, so I was wondering if the only model year you can actually drain the converter on is the '03s. Does anyone know? I'd like to do the complete flush but without a PICTORIAL guide on how to do it, I am somewhat lost.

Kinda figured I'd drain the pan (7.5 quarts), and the converter (? quarts), and call it good----which BTW is all my local dealer was going to do. I'm not even sure where the tranny's external filters are.

Boy do I ever wish teamroper60 lived closer.

Thanks.
