Re: Where is the Cummins engine??? 6.4?
i for one would love to see an inline 6 diesel engine in the ford just because they are much easier to work on. the v-8s are so wedged in! same with the old v-8 big truck diesels. torgue is torgue and the 6 does the same job as a v-8. ford did own part of cummins, but sold it off. my last E cat,,a 550, had its share of problems. it was back to cat twice with problems,,all electrical. most of the problems i see here are related to souping up a good engine. stop your whining! pay the piper!!! this "lo end torque problem" is a bit of a pain,,sure makes you think when pulling out into traffic. but the cummings guys have the same problem. they just wont put out the power until the turbo spools up. thanks EPA. they just wont allow the coal to be shoved until the boost is there to keep it smoke free. most of you guys werent born when i had the old 425 cat 1693. it was king of the road and i was stopped and told to never come into a certain georgia town and short shift it and stand on her again. hell, they would belch a cloud of black smoke that would stop traffic behind it!! and it would make the damnest rattle at 1200-1300 rpm. this engine went for over 1,000,000 with 50,000 mile oil changes using amsoil. then it only needed a re-con head and it went on for another 400,000! the only issue was the check valves that retained line pressure between injections. after that, it was never in a cat shop ,,no electicals to screw up in that great engine. same with the 600 kta cummins.hell, that engine had rod bearings that were bigger than any other truck engine i ever saw main bearings. 1150 cubic inches of pure power! but, i would bet that ford is going to stick with the cramed in V_8.
