A wise old man once told me it is not will it work or wont it work. but how do you get it to work with what you have.
As stated before electric over hydrolic needs a battery source close to the activator. If you put a 5 amp battery and use it for 6 mps then the last time you aint got no amps.trailer dont work.Brake controllers work about the same power in, brake activation in, ground and brake activation out. have nanual brake activation little lever on controller and a auto, when you hit the brake pedal.Big wire the longer the run the biger the wire needs to be. Trailer Brake activator some use motors to drive some use pumps,Master brake uses a motor to drive a piston into a master cylinder, 1600 psi for disk and 1000 for drum.Dexter uses a pump, 1600 psi for disk and 1000 for drum.
To hook up you have wire for 12 goes to a battery battery is charged off truck. groud goes to ground prefered to battery ground. the battery on the trailer and the truck ground in the pig tail. Then you have a brake activation wire that is the blue wire coming out of the brake cotroller. simple. Then you have one more wire that is the brakaway wire from the battery. sends 12volt to the unit and locks the trailer brakes. If all theses are present then the trailer brakes should work, depending on the controller in the truck and the amount of brake pads you have. Cheap dont mean good in the controller buisness.
A friend has a 2005 F-350 dully Pulles my 40 foot gooseneck trailer, electric over hydrolic trailer with disk brakes and it works great as ling as he is over 15 mph when braking starts.
Whith this said cant aint and wont has not ever done any thing. If you are taking it to a shop and they say it cant be fixed it is time to go somewhere else. If the mechanic dont know how it works go tosome one that does.I have yet to see a trailer that cant be fixed.
