Re: Fleetguard oil filters?
The only time a Fleetguard Stratapore oil filter is not on my truck is when it comes from the factory with a Ford oil filter on it. From then on, Fleetguard Stratapore filters go on my PSD.
As to why.....
Fleetguard (Cummins) publishes the filtering capacity for their Stratapore filters on their website. As I recall, it filters 90% of 30 micron particles with every pass and 50% of 10 micron particles with every pass.
I buy them in bulk off the internet and hand them to the boys at Wally World when I get my oil changed.
Now....
I know I'm paying more than I have to for filters....Wally World only gives me a $1.80 (or someting close) credit for supplying my own filter (rather than the Fram they use). The Fleetguard Strapores cost about $15 over the internet, so they are expensive. But I have health insurance, even though I don't expect to get sick any time soon and life insurance even though I don't expect to die soon. Heck, I even carry (in my truck) a stainless steel .357 magnum with a 6-inch barrel. All because they may not be needed right now...and they may not never be needed...but I feel the extra cost is justified by the security received.
Of course, the "real" secret is changing the oil and the filter religiously on schedule.
BTW, I also use Fleetguard air filters and have been very happy with them.
My 2 cents....
