As I understand it, the use of a conventional respirator (such as those used for spray painting) will NOT protect the user's airway from Methanol fumes.
The only breathing apparatus that will protect your airway from Methanol vapors is a *fitted* positive-pressure respirator, such as that used by firefighters.
