you may also have air pockets in your system.if i remember correctly you need to fill system by removing plug in upper radiator tube to fill.my semi had same problem and i removed radiator cap and let the t-stat cycle a few times-problem fixed.having air in system mioght also cuase puking but you said you didnt start adding coolant till it got cold-sounds like a cold leak.wont leak after engine heats up but will after it cools.might check all connections or better yet take to dealer and have w2arranty fix it.
