Not in my sig anymore, but it was a 97 Ram/ Cummins with a bunch of mods & got 17 on the highway & 10-13 in town. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif The work truck in my sig gets a tankful avg. of 5.7mpg /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif...But it has 4.78 gears and is always loaded past 26.5k pounds.
I've got as high as 18 but I have to drive SLOW to get that. Needless to say I don't see that high very often. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I usually get 15/16 which ain't to shabby though!
Old 7.3/manual with 3.55's - I can get 18-21 hwy. depending on how fast I drive. My company '99 Dodge/auto with 3.55's won't break 16, but it has an Edge box.
Summer, on the interstates I am getting 22 or so. Winter, around town it is more like 18. Towed 5,000lbs with a lot of windage 3k miles and got 16. 3.55 rear really helps.
The other side of the coin for this topic ( small diesels):
1991 Niva, W/ Benz 240D + turbo. IDI, no intercooler, cold air snorkle, 2.5" exhaust, Benz 722 auto, 4.10's, tweaked fuel & timing, 3200 lb kerb weight, full time 4wd.
driven 'nicely' 36 city / 45 hwy
driven normally 32 city / 43 hwy
flogging it 26 city / 38 hwy
by comparison, my 99 1/2 model year VW Jetta 1.9TDI w/ 5 speed manual.
best ever - 72 MPG @ sustained 50-55 mph speeds, no traffic @ night
average highway - 54 MPG
average city - 35 MPG
the Niva towed ok up to ~3500lbs, but at that point was working HARD on long grades ( couldnt legally pull more on-road anyway ). I set the TDI up to pull a small utility trailer to go camping, ( <1000, loaded) and would never try it again: absolutely no extra power for that sort of work. there are defintely trade offs for the mileage.

Thats cool.
I use to get 18 to 20 with my old PSD 65 mph highway.

11k+ miles pulling 1200-3k# with my TDI - Alaska, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Washington Passes. Pulled 1500# back and forth over the continental divide with no problems and pulled the I90 east bound grade out of Billings, MT. @ speed limit. Best little tower around.
90 F350 4x4 Crew 7.3idi - 18mpg combined commute - 22mpg highest hwy. TDI - 49 mpg same commute - you don't want to know the highest.
On average about 15.5 around town and 19 all highway at 70. Best tank was just over 20 mpg all highway and worst was 13.9, that was very cold weather with alot of stop and go.
I have both 12valve dodge and a 01Ford with the 7.3 ... the Ford is only driven once a week to keep it from sitting ...the Ford is a SRW with Texasoutfitters bumpers all the way around ... It tips the scale around 10,000lbs and it gets 17 if I baby it , 14 running around.
The 96 12valve with a full flow aircleaner and 4"exhaust all the way up to the single stack ... that baby gets 25 or better on the highway and running around town 23 as long as I drive it like a old man .
I can say it's a great truck ...I had one of those old volkswagon pick-ups and that terd got over 50 MPG ...LOL
Wow. This is the first MPG thread Ive ever seen where the BS flag isnt going up on every post. Guess none of you guys are the ones I talk to at the fuel pumps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Almost raised it on dave here, then saw his gearing....
with my old '89 ford diesel i useally get about 16 -18 range i have 5 sp handshaker with 4.10 gearing but moddied pump to limited to 2500 rpm [ top speed is 76 mph wot ]
the other truck i have also is IHC with DT466 i get about 10 mpg avarage useally about 8 1/2 to 13 mpg depending how i deal with driving on this truck
but really I always have a habit to figures in gallons per hours instad of mpg for some reason for pretty long time my truck [89 ] do burn about 3 to 3 1/2 gallons fuel per hour but the DT 466 burn about 4 to 5 depending how hard i run it
for other engines just ask me i will tell you the gph figures at full power setting
Merci, Marc
