If they want to "steal" the truck they will use a tow truck. There are ways to start the engine without the original key, but they are too skill and labor intensive for the average street criminal.
I once went on a service call for a GM SUV. The owners' father had put a Ford key in and tried to start it. The anti-theft system let the truck start and run (with the right key) for about 1/4 mile then it made the gas gauge go to empty and shut the engine down. It also made the engine crank over slowly like the battery was dead (but would not restart).
I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. It may very well have been an aftermarket system because I had never encountered anything like it before or since.
