6.9l engine work in place of a 7.3?

on my way home from work today my back wheels locked up and then let go and my engine had quit. after further inspection there was a big tear in my oil pan. so needless to say i need to find a replacement engine for my truck. a buddy of mine has a 6.9l and i was wondering if it would work in my 1992 f250. if so are there any mods i would have to do. thanks
