Ok, this answer is coming from a Tech from Freightliner who I trust completely.
You can't filter the impurities, dirt, metal etc down enough to where it won't harm these newer injectors & do it affordably. In the old days it was common practice. Also, you cannot remove the HIGH acid levels found in WMO by filtering, which also damage injectors. Also, the additive packages being used in todays diesel oils are designed to not burn under heavy load, high compression diesel engines. The additives are non combustable & flat out don't burn, in order to protect the internal parts of our engines. Since it doesn't burn easily & needs to be mixed with diesel to even pass it through the engine. Then it produces less power which requires more of it. So the savings are even less.
It's just a bad idea & not just for one, but for multiple reasons.
