Ok, but a micron is 39 millionths of an inch.

Your math is a little off. There are 25400 microns per inch.
[/ QUOTE ] That's funny. You told him he was wrong and then told him he was right.
Anyway, how can [ QUOTE ]
The fitment between these tow parts (think fitment of piston to cylinder wall) is on the order of 20-30 millionths of an inch.

I told him to check his math, that is all. It is up to him to decide it 1/1,000,000 on an inch is the same as 1/25,400 on an inch. I already know. I told him the typical fuel filtration on these engines is 2 microns, it is. The engineers that designed the piston and ring to cylinder wall fitments did not check with me. I have some opinions on it, like it doesn't matter below 2 microns to the injectors, most of the fuel on the power stroke is suspended in a burn consequently minor elements not a problem at or below 2 microns and that there is an oil film on the cylinder walls that has the make up thickness sealed anyway. So I really don't know what you find "funny". I find it funny that you spell the number two "tow" but that is just me. I find it funny that you would think that anyone would have a reason to design anything to an "engineered failure". Lots of things are funny, like I am laughing now. 106
