Re: Just causing trouble....gas prices
These are tow trucks, not pickups. $48,000 is for a 2003 F450 rollback, (2 car carrier) with all equipment installed. the back end cost about $20,000. Steel prices have went up in those years, about $2000 per tow body. These trucks weigh about 11,000# empty. The V10 gets 6.3 MPG average, the PSD gets 10 MPG average. This is about 50% city, 50% highway. The V10 got 7.7 MPG on an all highway tank, The PSD got 13.2 MPG on All highway. The 30% better mileage figure was generous, It's closer to 60% better than the V10 (in my case). I guess, even if diesel fuel was 50 cents higher than gas it would still be much cheaper (for me) to run the Diesel than the V10. The resale is incredable on Diesel tow trucks, but by buying the V10 tow truck used, I saved a bunch, almost enough for that Cummins swap (when the V10 dies) I've been thinking about. Lloyd
