OK heres the deal. I have a 05 f450-6.0 It seems to be in the shop at least once a year sense I bought it new. It has about 64,000 miles. It is in the shop as we speak. The tow truck was an 03 International 4300 w/DT466. It kind of got my interest. Just wondering if a International 4300 w/dt466 would be more dependable then my f450? Also how would a 255hp dt466 compare to the 6.0?
Thanks for any help.

I have an IHC 4700 box truck with a t444e and Allison auto. I have retrieved a fault code of 313. Anyone know what this is and what needs to be done? Also, it has a 70mph speed limiter and loses 10-15 mph up hills. Is this normal? I am considering performance upgrades, maybe a chip, although it seems they are no more than a 10k or 14k resistor that changes the ICP signal(can't you get resistors for less than a buck at Radio Shack???). But I haven't seen anyone address exhaust on the bigger trucks. Anyone tried to put a less restrictive exhaust on one of these? The down pipe is only 3 1/2" and that muffler is huge and surely very restrictive. I would think a bigger down pipe, if available, and a free flowing muffler of some type would allow the turbo to spool up quicker and cool down the EGTs. I know the bigger exhaust works well on the F350s. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone used the factory DVD repair manual?

Here's an interesting article about increasing efficiency AND reducing emissions by blending gas and diesel in engines.

Technology Focus - November 2009 Issue (http://memagazine.asme.org/Articles/2009/November/Technology_Focus.cfm)

Scroll down the page to BLENDING FUELS TO BOOST EFFICIENCY.

They're talking about a prototype that gets 53% thermal efficiency versus 33% for conventional diesels. And they say that gassers could be drastically improved from their current 25% efficiency.

Now THAT would be a good thing. And being able to avoid things like catalysts and particulate filters wouldn't be a bad thing either.

2000 Sterling loud howling engine noise??

Hello all... First time owning such a truck and first time posting here. Got a 2000 Sterling with a CAT 3126B Diesel, Allision Auto, 200k on the odometer and 24ft bobtail. Seems to be a good running truck and the only complain I have so far is the loud howling engine noise as I press the accelerator and speeding up. The louder the noise the higher the RPM, idling noise seems normal. With the windows closed I can barely hear myself talk with RPM at around 2.5k (WOT) at 55mph. Is this a problem with the fan clutch or something? The truck does not overheat and stays around 195 degrees. My 2000 Ford E350 V10 gas engine does that once in a while during cold mornings (40 degrees in Los Angeles) but once it's warmed up, that howling noise goes away and the engine really quiets down nicely. This is the best comparison I can throw out as I have no idea why the CAT diesel makes such a loud noise which is unbearable.

Also, the engine tops out at 55mph and 2500rpm unless I'm going down hill and maybe 60mph if I'm lucky. Is there a way to bump up the top speed to 70~75mph with a ecu mod? I'm in the Chino/Inland Empire area, does anyone know where I can take the truck in for service? Thanks!!!

Why is the splitter box on a 9513 only active in the upper range ?

It sits between the transmission output shaft and the drive shaft, right ?

Why couldn't it be shifted in the lower range ?

What is the difference between a 13 speed splitter box and an 18 speed splitter box ?

Thanks
