10,000 GVW option

I was looking at the options for a single rear wheel F350 and noticed there is a 10,000 GVW option for no charge. Is this only to reduce the GVW to get under the weight for commercial plates? Is the truck mechanically the same as the higher GVW single rear wheels including ride height?

I didn't order it, but it was transfered from another dealer. I wasn't sure which forum to put it in, so here it goes.

I went to see my 2009 F-450 CC C/C after it rolled off the transporter this afternoon. I pick it up on Saturday, and I can't wait. I already bought an OEM center console to replace the center bench seat, and have plans to tint the windows. I have to wait 5 weeks for my Reading Spacemaster 57 to show up and get put on, so it will sit at my house for a while. That is going to suck to look at.

Here's a crappy Storm pic for you. Better pics when I pick it up, maybe even a rig shot or two!

I sold my 2005 KR F350 in 2006 for a 2007 classic GMC/Duramax. It has been 3 1/2 years with the only problem a leaky power steering hose. With that said the 2011 F350 or F450 with all the new upgrades is calling me back.

Can you order the actual 5th wheel hitch installed or is it just the mounts on the frame for some certain brand of hitch? I watched and read everything and to me it was a little ambiguous.

Well, answered my question with one more search and found the video showing it in the fender flare thread.

Current Expected Order Time

I have been seriously thinking about a new F-150 Supercrew instead of the current F-350 6.4L. With my trailer needs changing, an F-150 should do the trick. However, I am still a bit concerened about being close t maximum payload with nothing in the bed of the truck, So, that has me thinking about lookin into an F-250 Crewcab with a V-10. The mileage will be no worse than my current 6.4L, and a whole lot better in many cases. I doubt pulling 18-19 out of a new 5.4L F-150 is realistic, so the more likely 16mpg would only separate me by about $1500 a year from the V-10's fuel economy. I do alot of highway driving. Then, I get versatility with the pyload with the F-250.

So, after a long round-about, what is the current delivery time on a Superduty V-10? I'm trying to find a 2009 because I'd like the 20's if possible, and it looks like a few are still out there. I guess I can't be too picky with a $6000 rebate.

2010 F450 Lariat

Hello everyone! This is my first post so I'll share with you my earlier days of owning Ford products. The first Ford vehicle I owned was a red and white 1964 1/2 ton pickup. I distinctly remember the 4 speed transmission with the granny first gear. In 1976 I picked up a 1975 Ford Ranger XLT Full Time Four Wheel Drive, A/T, 360 engine with 11K miles on it. Previous owner installed auxillary fuel tank so with that and the tank behind the seat...50 gallons of leaded fuel at 0.46 cents/gallon.

Those days are long gone. That was the last of owning Ford products. Crossed over to GM and currently own two 2004 K2500 Burbs. One with 6.0 engine and the other with 8.1 engine.

Stopped by the dealership and drove a King Ranch. First impression, I'm not real keen on the KR leather color or comfort. I'm leaning more toward Lariat Trim - with exterior color of Oxford White/Pueblo Gold. The other item was the rotary dial on the side of the seat pan to adjust lumbar support. Whats up with that? Maybe I'm spoiled by the Suburan's lumbar support by just pressing a buttom to inflate and deflate. I guess I can adapt to the F450 hand crank.

I'm now contemplating ordering a 2010 F450. I don't have a lot of time to contemplate placing order because from the intel I'm hearing is about 3 weeks at best before ordering comes to end for 2010s. I have a few questions that I welcome your input on. 1) Is there any difference in the firmness and ride comfort between KR trim and Lariat trim? 2) What is the difference between Camper Package, Snow Plow Prep Package, Heavy-Service Suspension Package and Extra-Heavy-Service Suspension Package? 3) Dual alternators - what would drive the requirement for tow alternators? 4) Does the ride change if adding FX4 OFF-Road Package compared to without it?

Thats all the questions for now. Thank you in advance for your input.

Lengthy but informative.

I'm very happy to report that I picked up my truck yesterday. I got it home lasst night late. There is a little bluetooth glitch between the BB and the Eclipse AV but tomorrow it gets worked out.

Here are some observations:

While working with the Nav at the dealership, it sat and idled for a pretty long time...like maybe a few hours maybe a bit longer. it was hot and the AC was on low. This was before a test drive. The truck had a whopping 137 miles on it. The minute we pulled it off the lot, bang.........re-gen! I was thinking.. man, idling is one of the things it says if you do , it will manually re-gen. Well it did, but it was a passive operation. I saw it on the dash. Here is the crazy thing. It lasted about 10 seconds! That was it! Dealer even said it not unheard of to be so fast, so efficient.

The tank was full, minus idle time. First thing I did was add my Diesel treat 2000 supplement. I drove home from Fontana, about 45 miles south of LA to Bako about 150 miles away. Drove between 65 and 70 up and down the hill all the way home.

Another observation :with the 4:30 gearing I noticed my RPMs where 2250 right at 70MPH. With the 3:73s it was 2000 rpms at 70 MPH. When I left the carlot according to my message board I was 15 miles off full. I got home with a little over 1/4 of a tank used. The starting number I saw was 469 miles till empty. Pulling in the yard was right at 320 until empty. Topped off, it is going to be real close to 500 per tank.

These trucks will hold an extra gallon plus in the throat comfortably. My 2002 would hold 40 topped off. On that note, I added the 65 gallon Aerotank/tool box combo. One nice feature is that the tank fill is under the toolbox lid right in the corner. Very accessable. It cannot be seen when closed nor can it be vandalized unless you lift the lid, which I will keep locked. On the interior right down off the floor, away from whewre your feet could hit it, I have a fuel gauge for that tank. It lights up nicely at night...not too bright. Straight down from the steering column and directly under the bottom of the dash there is a 15 minute timer, a wind up type, outta sight outta mind but totally accessable.

My truck was so comfortable to drive. Those Captain's chairs are just sweet! Lighting at night was awesome. Mirrors give you such a good view.. I did not notice the blind spot. I'm talking quiet.. my God, it is awesome! I didn't have to crank up the stereo which is the premium sound and a killer itself.

This morning I went out and for whatever reason I looked down at the chromed tailpipe. It looked like it just came off the rail car. Not one spot of soot..anywhere!! Does this thing really burn that clean? Is that true? I need help with that one. anybody?

The Eclipse Nav functioned beautifully. That 3D imaging and huge exact color screen replica of the state routes, (ex: 215 east, I-5 North) which by the way was so spot on with audible direction was just too cool:thumbsup: The GPS is totally dead on balls accurate and the information you receive comes up before you get to that location as far out as a few miles hen starts narrowing the distance down to 1/2 mile then farther. It then counts down in 400 yard 1/4 mile encrements on the freeway. City street driving is as close as 100 ft! On streets you also get address, a speed and your direction.

Maybe , by my type you can see that I am extremely happy. If not let me tell you just one time. I am so very happy with the way that everything turned out. Thursday morning window tinting to protect that leather up here in Bako and a Noah 4 car cover on its way.

Is my dealer being honest???

First off let me apologize in advance, its kind of a long story but I will try to keep it as short as possible.

On Oct 6th, I ordered a 2010 F-250, 5.4L, 4.10 limited slip, etc., etc. I have a copy of the Dealer Order Receipt, so I know it was accepted by Ford on the 6th. My salesman said to expect it in 6-8 weeks and I understood that was a reasonable time frame. About 2 weeks later, I called my dealer to see if he had an estimated build date yet, or even a VIN. I had read that Ford normally assigns a VIN within a few days of receiving an order. My salesman said the status was "unscheduled/clean", but should have a build date any time.

Fast forward to today. After a few more calls to the dealer with little success, I decided to call Ford directly. The person on the phone researched my order and told me it was in exactly the same status, unscheduled/clean. He then went on to say that there had to be something wrong and that I should contact my dealer to investigate. I went to the dealer today, told him about the phone call, he in turn called the "zone rep" who actually handles all the orders for our area. After about 15 minutes, the sales manager came out to give me the bad news. He said there was some kind of allocation problem, but it was fixed now. He didn't elaborate and I didn't even ask because of the next sentence out of his mouth. He goes on to say that my truck wouldn't be built until the first week of December and that I would be lucky to see it on the lot before Jan 1st! I say why, and he said its because they only build F-250's with 5.4's during certain times of the year, not continuously, and the next time is around December 1st.

Needless to say, I'm really disappointed that 6-8 weeks turned into 12-14. I would really like to know if anyone here has any knowledge of this "certain times of the year" thing. Something just seems fishy to me about the whole thing and if I do find out that they're just feeding me a line of B.S., I will be really pissed.

So, sorry again for the long post but, any thoughts?

I was talking with my dealer yesterday; he is part of the Ford factory "Management" Team, and he said that GM was shutting down their Duramax plant for 6 months to re-tool. Also, Dodge and Cummins split the sheet and they are scrambling to find another diesel engine source. Also Ford has a new V-6 that will blow the doors off the current 5.4 and the new V-8 will have 30 more HP than the latest V-10. Biggest thing Ford has to worry about is having a RELIABLE product, is what I told him. Between the 6.0 fiasco and the 6.4 regen/soot bag crap, anything diesel wise would be an improvement, but it better work. He says that Ford is real happy with the results of their extensive testing of the new Scorpion diesel engine and coupled with the 6 speed TorqueShift is one bad ass rig. We'll see.

so i placed my 2010 f-350 order at the dealer on 10/14/09.

i looked around and see that orders need to be transmitted by 10/22/09 for the 2010MY (is this correct?).

some questions:
what happens if the dealer doesn't transmit the order on time?
does the dealer need to have an allotment available (i saw this posted somewhere) to order a vehicle?
when do dealers send orders to the factory? the dealer system has an order #, but when does ford get it?
how long to generate a VIN (so i can check that the options are correct).

the dealer indicated 6-8 weeks which is borderline for my financing ( i am waiting for the bank to call me back with this issue).
is it a hard 6-8 weeks from order date or transmit date?

sorry for the anxious questions, but it is the first time i have ordered a vehicle and i dont know the process. that and i am anxious to get my new truck....... lol.
