Air Filter modification

I have a '92 F-250 S/C 4x4 w/ a non turbo 7.3,it has a K&N air filter but the stock air filter canister(round unit),the bowl area that is attached to the lid or top which goes down inside the filter, could this be cut off as well as the plate in the base of the canister that is in directline with the air inlet, does this serve a purpose?
I was told this would inprove air flow and give it a little better pick-up.

Re: Air Filter modification

I took the Dremel tool to the spot welds on the bowl part of the cover of my 89 7.3L. It sure looked like it would add a lot more space for air to move around. I don't know if it did any good or not because I cut it out just a few days after I bought the truck. It was still running strong when I sold it, and I still see it running up and down the road. I don't think you will do any harm at all by removing both pieces.

T Mcweed:

Welcome to Ford-Diesel.Com!

We have a number of forums here that are dedicated to various specific topics. Take some time to look around, you might be surprised at what you find.

Your question will probably get the best response in the 7.3 IDI Diesels forum, so I'll move this thread there. You can jump straight to it by clicking HERE
