Archived forum

I love the way that the owner/moderators of this forum aren't smart enough to go back a few days so as to not archive active posts in this forum. I know there were a few threads that I had been watching and participateing in that are now archived and can't be replied to. Something else that is getting VERY old is Larry moveing threads. I know I don't really wonder around all the forums so that I can catch anything and I enjoy some of the not so related threads that my fellow '94-'97 buddies like to throw out there. Some of the other forums may be full of wineing sniveling *****es that just have to have every post in it's exact proper place and aren't really personal at all but this forum seems to be a lot closer to one another and on a more personal level and I know if I have something I want to share with the rest of the '94-'97 bunch that I want to post it here for all my friends to see and NOT have it moved. I just wish we could get some people running this board that had a little more intelegence and common sense. OK I done ranting for now. Sorry I just had to get that out.

Re: Archived forum

Could have simply went back to beginning of JUne to archive, would have left post that were active,,,,well err-active.
I too was watching and about to enter my sorry comments on a post but it is now locked.
I guess the only way to dictate what\how things are done here is to send Jason a "contribution" or two.

I think it's good to get it cleaned it out to make it go faster but it definitely would have been smarter to yank the stuff starting like a month ago. All work in progress just came to a screetching halt...

Re: Archived forum

GTS,

Jason stated 2 days before he archived the forums that he couldn't save posts they were on the first page . It said when you archive the software only let you do everything you couldn't choose posts to leave up and going.

Now I do agree on the Larry part. Larry chill just a little when something is really outta place someone from this forum will for sure PM you

Re: Archived forum

I have to agree, in that the '94-'97 is definitely different than all the other forum categories, in that we're more like a big family here, rather than individuals who are picky about every single issue being in the right category!
With regard to us complaining about how Jason went about doing this...I doubt he ever comes in this section (now that he has his 99+ truck) and would even see what we have to say! You have to go to the "News and Comments" section to ask him anything usually. On this one though, as has been mentioned...I don't believe he had a choice of how he went about it, and the recent slowness of the forum needed his attention.
Needless to say, like Geoff said, the majority of us where participating in many different posts that we keep an eye on for days, and now that's all gone. SO, for those needing a reserection of a particular post, lets start a new one..and name it what it was before...and continue on!

This is still the greatest place for all of us to gather our thoughts, whether it be our trucks, or any other topic.
I rarely go to any of the other forum categories either, so lets hope our moderators don't start moving posts, as this is where we all come to post...no matter what the topic!

As an example...the recent death of John Conway's daughter...now, to me this topic was most definitely created for us (the '94-'97 crowd) so why should something like that be moved to any other forum category...when the majority of us would have missed it otherwise, since we rarely go anywhere but here? I'm sure there are other topics similar to that, where we want it left here...and not moved.

Good post Geoff, but I don't think we should be too hard on Jason, as I don't think he had a choice.

Re: Archived forum

Hey Dale,

I didn't know if I was doing right or not but after the archiving I just started another post with the same name. Hey man I bought that 95 Stroker this morning so I guess I am on here to stay and I hope you fellows don't get bored with me asking questions. I can't be upset with Jason for I have never recieved a bill from him or sent him a check and I have sure enjoyed the forum.

Thanks---Bill Miller

Good point Bill... Guess if the others don't like what Jason is doing they could start a site of their own & do it as they see fit.
You want to comment on an Archived forum, just cut & paste from it to a new thread.

Re: Archived forum

Hey Smokinstroker96,

I remember one time my computer quit showing the messages in red in parenthesis and I had somehow gotten logged off the system, I logged on and it worked fine. Look at the wide gold toolbar above where main index is on the left and go to the right and see if it says login or logout if you are logged in the word should be logout. Hope this helps.

Bill MIller.

Re: Archived forum

So you mean to tell me that they can move the threads all over the place on this forum but they can't keep the current threads running when they archive? They could just have a forum to send all the current threads to temporarily then archive all the threads in the main forum. Once they archive the threads in the main forum move the curren threads back. It would take a bit more time to do granted but they probably have more than just Jason doing the work so they should be able to do it in a timely fashon.

It isn't like Jason is letting us on this forum out of the kindness of his heart. He does it to make money. Anytime you spend any money on mods for your truck from an advertiser on this forum you just paid Jason for this site. And it aint cheap to advertise on this forum. We are the ones that make this site what it is not Jason or the moderators. They merely police it wich our '94-'97 forum really doesn't need.

Re: Archived forum

Sorry to disagree but I appreciate all the information I can get from this site. If not for Jason, the moderators and the sponsors/supporters those of us who don't have the money to get a newer truck with a warranty and all would be out of luck. Would you go to someone's house and take over one of the rooms, telling the owner of the house to go away and leave you alone? Sounds like how most crack houses operate.

I have said it before and will say it again, this is Jason's forum just like Jason's house is his home. It is not a democracy, it is not a public place. If you do not like Jason's house, don't visit. If you don't like Jason,s forum, go away and start your own. I think that is how Diesel Central got started, isn't it?

OK - flame suit on, go for it guys.

Re: Archived forum

There were before I moved this thread from the 94-97 forum several interesting points brought up that I thought deserved a quick more factual comment:

Point One

Just like guessing what your water temp, EGT, etc. it's not a good idea to simply guess at what a particular situation might be w/o something to measure the "facts" by like a good set of gauges. Here are the facts since early Feb (when I became a moderator) for the 3 most active forums. (note: the moved threads are where Smokey and I signed the move and I've signed like 99% of my moves and believe Smokey signs most of his too)

Forum: 7.3L Engine and Drivetrain
Total Threads: 3,250 approx.
Total moved threads: 51 approx.
% of moved threads: 1.6%

Forum: Upgrades and Aftermarket
Total Threads: 4000 approx.
Total moved threads: 39 approx
% of moved threads: 1%

Forum: 94-97 PSD
Total Threads: 4500 approx.
Total moved threads: 32 approx.
% of moved threads: .7%

Point Two

[ QUOTE ]
As an example...the recent death of John Conway's daughter...now, to me this topic was most definitely created for us (the '94-'97 crowd) so why should something like that be moved to any other forum category...when the majority of us would have missed it otherwise, since we rarely go anywhere but here? I'm sure there are other topics similar to that, where we want it left here...and not moved.

[/ QUOTE ]

As you can clearly see the following was never moved:

John Conway Condolences Thread

Point Three

The facts are at least this moderator was aware of not only the link under Point Two above but the following:

Duplicate John Conway Condolences Thread

Along with this request by the initiator of each thread in the link directly above:

Admins & owner - please excuse the double post in the 94-97 forum also as quite a few members dont choose to visit this area of the forum.

And the "Facts" clearly show neither was moved/deleted/locked

Just to put a little perspective on some of this

Re: Archived forum

It's true that I could do it that way, but it would take me several hours to do it. The forum software doesn't have a built-in way to do it. I'd have to do it all manually. It's easier for the users to create new topics for things they are still interested in discussing.
