avitar question ??

I've sent this question to the Administrator and another member who administer this forum almost a week ago. It appears they've read my question but have not responded back. I apologize if things have changed and maybe they don't manage the forum anymore but a simple reply would do.

My simple question to those who know and can point me in the right direction:

Hi, I deleted my personal avatar and wanted to use on of the default ones supplied by this web site but it appears that they've been removed?

There used chooses like the flying airplane, etc. that were available to members if they didn't want to upload their own avatar/picture. I looked but could not find them anymore; they may still be available and I'm just missing it.

Thanks,

-Mike

Mike, I've been very active here for over 9 years, and I've never seen such a source for avatars on TheDieselStop.

To get mine, I found it somewhere on the web, downloaded it to my hard drive, then uploaded it to "My Gallery" on TheDieselStop. Then right-click on it, then click on "properties", then copy the URL into RAM. Then edit my profile and paste the URL into the avatar window.

The URL must end in ".jpg" or ".gif" or other photo format listed in the gallery section. Be sure whatever you choose is apporpriate for a family-oriented website. My favorite is "Mud Flap Girl", but the powers that be would probably frown on that one as an avatar.

There are stock avatars with ALL bulletin board system software. They may have been disabled by the person who did the install--I get the distinct impression that they're doing so to cut down on bandwidth costs.

I don't claim to know anything about bulletin board software, but a bit of research turned up this tidbit:

Just means that they're not installed.

There were stock avatars available for a while under the old UBB software during the latest upgrade. When the software changed to the current vBulletin iteration, I believe that they were no longer included.

Klhansen, that explains it perfectly, thank you!!!

I know about downloading pics and using them as avatars, I’ve done this before but I removed my pic and wanted to go back to the World War II fighter plane avatar/pic that was available for awhile here on this web site. No problem, thank you all for getting back to me!!!

Sincerely,

-Mike

Mike,

I just looked on the old site, with the thought of finding that avatar for you, but unfortunately, they're gone and no longer display there.

Maybe you can track it down somewhere on the internet. Try searching for a forum that uses UBBthreads software.

My forums run on UBB.threads.

I believe the OP is looking for this one...
