For a number of reasons, mostly my own, I have resigned my moderator duties.

The comings and goings of moderators here is interesting. I did a little research directly from the site.
From the list of moderators listed I discovered the following information.
Shawn has not made a post here since 10-05-05
Phil D had not made a post since 8/25/05 until only recently when he posted a few times in April of 06
OB-1 has not posted here since 3/3/05
CMuncy has made around 30 posts here in two years.
In the meantime no fewer than 4 moderators have abruptly resigned, some who still occasionally still post here and can't control repressed venom.
That leaves the rest of the moderation duties on just a very few folks. And some of them rarely post anymore, those that are left.
Of course it would be easy to say that just because they don't post does not mean they are not moderating, to that I say bunk.
Jason you need to get some help around here, some folks who care, who believe in the site and your desired direction for it. At the same time a little introspection could not hurt.
I generally don't criticize this site and am not doing so here, but when something becomes so apparent that it can not be denied, then it is time to address it.
Just want to thank Dave for his contribution to the site...thanks for your work, hope your leaving your mod position was not due to any hostile/negative reasons...Look forward to you still being apart of the site as a member.
Thanks for all your help Dave, like I said, you have been as fair as anyone could be, and you have a sweet truck too, how can you beat that!

Gee possibly you have a life elsewhere? Thank you for your efforts. Same for other moderators, it's not like a paid full time job that you punch in every day.

Exactly. Even though I don't, as well as a few others, post as often as I once did, we are extremely busy in the background. Don't let a lack of account activity fool you...

Pulling teeth is easier than getting moderators. I too am sorry Dave left but sometimes that happens. To fill his shoes, it will probably take us a month or 2 to deliberate to find potential candidates.

I think my post has answered this one enough....

Folks there is no reason to be defensive here. I was not criticizing Believer or his decision. If it takes two months to find a decent moderator, then that is a problem in itself. Sorry, but I just do not believe there is that much to it. There are dozens of folks around here who are helpful, respectful, log in daily and would love a shot at it. Some have even openly lobbied for the job. I bet, though I obviously do not know, that Jason gets a bunch of emails from folks asking to be moderators. I did it once about three years ago (this was the first internet forum board I had ever participated in, and thought moderating would be something I would have enjoyed, since that time it became obvious that I was not moderator material). How can it take 2 months to decide on something like this. An unpaid volunteer, so we are told, who comes in and makes sure the rules are followed. Someone who is temperate and fair. Dozens of folks here can do that. If they don't work out, pull the plug on them, simple enough.
You don't need an openly opinionated person like myself, or like most of the folks that would even reply or participate in a thread like this, most of those kind of folks are not moderator material.
As to what moderators who have not posted in years do, or do not do in the "background", I don't know for sure but it is clear they are not moderating the forums very often yourself included, since that burden is falling on two or three folks, including Jason, to handle the entire site. IF you and the others I mentioned are actively moderating the forums then you guys are "shadow" moderating and letting the folks who do it openly take all the "heat" and that is not fair to them. But as stated before, I simply just don't think those I listed are doing little if any moderating at all. As I said more help is needed. None of my business really, but this forum is entitled, "news comments and suggestions".
